Strangers in the Night

One of my reader's neighbors is renting their home on Airbnb with a revolving door of strangers coming and going. It raises an interesting debate about owners' rights vs. quality of life and security. Is anyone else having a similar experience?

LMLWV to Join March

So tell me ladies, how can the LWV claim to be "non-partisan" and yet march in an event that is clearly partisan?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OFFICIALLY JOINS WOMEN’S MARCH

(January 15, 2017) The board of the League of Women Voters of the United States has voted unanimously to participate in the Women’s March on Washington and in the sister marches on Saturday, January 21, including the one in New York City.

In response, the League of Women Voters of Larchmont-Mamaroneck is urging local citizens to join the organization and join a Women's March in support of our democratic form of government.

Why March: The LWV is a non-partisan political organization that encourages active participation in government and seeks to influence public policy through education and advocacy. As such, the LWV views the Women’s March as an opportunity to “make our voices heard on our priorities.”

“We march to reform money in politics. We march for health care. We march for the environment.  These are our core issues and we want to ensure they are front and center.” LWVUS Board in a January 11, 2017 announcement to its membership

Why Join the LWV: The LWV needs active citizen participation, and citizens need the LWV, if they care about local and national government.

The LWV needs help to study the major issues of the time, come to consensus on positions and then advocate for what its members agree are the right policies. The LWV has fought for clean air and water, adequate educational funding, campaign reform and other important issues. The LWV’s ability to influence our legislative leaders is directly tied to our strength in numbers.

The LWV welcomes members of all political persuasions to become informed and involved citizens.

Public Hearing - “Outlawing Firearms on or in Town-owned or Town-leased Property or Buildings” Law

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

LEGAL NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Section 130 of the Town Law of the State of New York, and pursuant to a resolution of the Mamaroneck Town Board adopted on January 9, 2017 a Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 8:00 PM or as soon thereafter as is possible at the VFW Lodge, 1288 Boston Post Road Larchmont, New York to consider to consider: “Outlawing Firearms on or in Town-owned or Town-leased Property or Buildings” Law Section 1 – Purpose. The Town Board is aware of the sad reality currently plaguing our country of shootings, often fatal, of innocent persons. While the Town Board recognizes that it cannot solve this problem, it also recognizes that there is no need for persons, other than specific officers and personnel, to carry firearms on, or in Town-owned or Town-leased property or buildings. This law makes it illegal for persons, other than those permitted to do so by this law, to bring firearms onto such property.
